Electric Firing Process & Work
The electric kiln is fired to cone 5, which is about 2100 degrees. I form my pieces either by throwing them on the wheel or by hand building. My hand built pieces are usually done by rolling out a slab. I then add surface designs by pressing items from nature into the clay, which leaves an imprint of texture. I then lay the slab over a mold to add some curvature for a shallow plate or bowl. Sometimes I paint my decoration using underglazes on top of a white slip.
